Hi just wondered what you thought about these wire rope barriers that are supposed to deflect cars that come into contact with them, what about a motorcyclist, the thought of hitting one of those exposed posts or worse still potentially being cut in half by those tensioned wires doesnt bare thinking about. |

You are right they are not biker friendly. They are designed for cars and are cheaper than the normal metal barriers. All about economics. _________________ You only get one chance to make a 1st impression so make it a good one.
Now anybody seen where I left it? |

Hmmm..... when it comes to a bike having a disagreement with a crash barrier, frankly I don't think it'll make a lot of difference what type it is. Any type of collision on a bike means you're in the s*** anyway, and probably going to be thrown off. Any collision investigators listening who can verify that?
I've seen footage of the rope barriers in action (with a car and a lorry) and they do seem to work - apparently they stretch a bit and 'saw' into the bodywork. dissipating the energy of the vehicle as they do so. Don't do the vehicle much good, though.
So is there any such thing as a motorcycle-friendly crash barrier? Much easier and cheaper to do away with motorcycles altogether. See this >>

At the end of the day it all comes down to money and its the poor motorcyclist who normally has to pay the price - and what a price to pay. |
