Hi just wondered what you thought about these wire rope barriers that are supposed to deflect cars that come into contact with them, what about a motorcyclist, the thought of hitting one of those exposed posts or worse still potentially being cut in half by those tensioned wires doesnt bare thinking about. Sad

You are right they are not biker friendly. They are designed for cars and are cheaper than the normal metal barriers. All about economics.

Hmmm..... when it comes to a bike having a disagreement with a crash barrier, frankly I don't think it'll make a lot of difference what type it is. Any type of collision on a bike means you're in the s*** anyway, and probably going to be thrown off. Any collision investigators listening who can verify that?
I've seen footage of the rope barriers in action (with a car and a lorry) and they do seem to work - apparently they stretch a bit and 'saw' into the bodywork. dissipating the energy of the vehicle as they do so. Don't do the vehicle much good, though.
So is there any such thing as a motorcycle-friendly crash barrier? Much easier and cheaper to do away with motorcycles altogether. See this >>

There has been a call to have these wire rope barriers banned. It won't happen of course, not enough sliced bikers to make it cost effective. Apparently, in NZ they have been nicknamed - makes you think.....

At the end of the day it all comes down to money and its the poor motorcyclist who normally has to pay the price - and what a price to pay. Cool
