Have below copied & pasted a post from Darren Tipton of the Advanced Driving Website fame
He has sent this to both Roada & IAM national forums but thought our local group might like to discuss it also.
Today (Monday 3rd April 2006) there is a news report from the BBC once again
highlighting the need for further training of younger drivers due to
casualties involving young people. Teenage driver deaths on the rise -

The IAM have, in the past tried to counter this by starting Max Driver in
conjunction with Max Driver magazine. This, unfortunately was not hugely
successful.
We have recently been told of the benefits of advanced driving, by a study
undertaken by Brunel University -

I would like to start a brainstorming campaign to find answers to this age
old question of how we get younger people to understand and change
attitudes. I know Dr. Lisa Dorn of Cranfield University has been working on
techniques such as the Driver Risk Index for the last 20 or so years.
To me, it's blatently obvious something needs to be done. I've started a
campaign on the BBC RoadSafety Website highlighting this issue, to attempt
to use this website and the BBC to come up with ideas on how to tackle the
problem. I have some, but would like to hear yours too.
If you are in an IAM or RoSPA Group we would very much like you to forward
this article for publication in your news letter, the perma link for this
board thread is

| Look how old this topic is and no one has the decency to reply to it, no wonder areas looking for improvement remain stagnant and a very worthwhile cause is ignored again. It is no good reading or hearing about another young driver typically in the age group of 17-25 being killed in a road accident and thinking what a tragedy it is if we are just going to sit here and not get our heads together to look for ways of trying to improve young drivers attitues and try atleast to slow down this epidemic. 8) |
